ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Our meeting was called to order by our President Bruce at 6PM by the ringing of our bell. This had followed a 30 minute social time and a lovely meal served by the Maya staff. Delicious as usual.
Bruce asked members and guests to introduce themselves. IPP/Treasurer Allan, Honorary Member AnneMarie, Vocational Director Danielle and guests Rich Foss, Gaye Warren and her PR director Livia, Paul from Luxe, Anna from the Philippines who is their President Elect all told us about themselves and any projects their clubs are working on.
Allan then ran the meeting, since we are rotating who runs the meeting, and told us about what has been occupying his time. He has been working with Sue & Ray Bishop and all the work they are doing in the Karangasem region. The Bishops, who retired from Australia only a few years ago, saw a real need for medical services for people who live far from existing services. So they began Rumah Sehat which has ‘Health Days’ where they take a doctor and medicines to villages that are far from local clinics. This has resulted in many healthier local peoples. Now they have begun a local
school. It will teach English and computer skills. The idea is that local hotels in the area do not hire locals because they have such a low level of education. Once trained and then hired by local hotels, it will mean they don’t have to do just local manual labor or go to Denpasar and live there away from their families.
Allan is also working on getting District funding for several projects that our club is working on: The John Fawcett Foundation which brings vision health and cataract surgeries to local villages; Bali Children’s Foundation, which helps children go to school that don’t have the money
for uniforms, books, paper, pencils, etc.; and Rumah Sehat, so we can help fund their ‘Health Days’.
Bruce, who has been working tirelessly since last August on out 3rd Annual Fundraiser Christmas Buffet Dinner at the 5 Star Maya Resort on 4 December. He told us we have over 70,000,000rp worth of raffle items and silent auction items. We have also already sold almost 10,000,000rp in tickets. And all this is before ANY of our marketing has started.
Bruce introduced our speaker Gaye Warren
She started the Bali Pink Ribbon Foundation in Bali. She presented a slide show that let us all know what incredibly important work they are doing. She told us that her vision is to prevent Indonesian women from developing and dying from breast cancer and to improve the quality of life of those who have the disease.
The money they receive helps them achieve this vision through awareness & Education Programs and by supporting women with breast cancer.
