ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Pres. Alan welcomed all our guests including: Annemarie, Rich, and Kaler who is a previous member and our sponsor student, and Jillian and Fred from the South Western Australia Bridgetown rotary club.
Rtn Jillian told all about what she is working on: Working with the Bali children’s project- teacher mentoring and working with 6 schools with 12 teachers each. For Munduk – she had a drive for wooden alphabet blocks in Bridgetown and able to supply 5 suitcases of foam and wooden blocks. She also mentioned that she had done workshops on literacy/curriculum/activities based on Indonesian Kider curriculum. (E.g of one workshop…using materials found around them that can develop a wide range of skills from classification to multiplication and pattern work.) She spoke of a literacy resource “anak Indonesia”- developed by a Yayasan, who produce books with Bali content and age appropriate through Diameka International school. April Dennis the principal and she got involved in developing the yayasan. Schools sponsored Munduk, Tegalalang and Penestanan. May need to contact others to be able to support Karengasem.
Coming up for Rotary are the District Conference next week in Surabaya, and RI conference soon in Korea. PE Bruce will attend the one day district conference.

Secretary Penny gave a passionate and informed talk on the environmental reasons that she became a plant eater as a follow up from last week’s speaker Chef Made and Pak Janur who spoke about their vision for helping the environment and the health of Balinese through the development of their restaurant Moksa and it’s organic garden.
Penny demonstrated how by cutting out meat, global warming can be slowed and eventually hopefully reversed. The world needs to stop using all its water resources and land resources on developing a food that supplies only 5% nutrition but with the cost of a huge medical bill because of the strong correlation between eating animal products and heart disease, cancer and diabetes. She concluded her talk with an appeal to all Rotarians to ‘be a gift to the world’ by helping regenerate the world’s forests and oceans by eating a plant based diet.
Raffle Draw: The raffle was won by Terri who was thrilled when her mystery prize was revealed!!
