ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Pres. Philip gave a brief presentation on the RYLA gathering which took place near Payangan Nov 1 and 2, with one participant sponsored by our club who will later speak to us about the experience.
Flags were exchanged with Barb from RC Paonia, Colorado
Philip announced an upcoming RC blood donor clinic at Grandmas Hotel on November 8. Apparently they will not accept blood donations from folks over 60 years old. I guess they want newer blood. In any event, try and gather your staff and other friends both local and Bule and take trip down there. The blood is desperately needed.
Several presentations were made to the members:
Rtn. Glenn presented on Stewardship (Committee: Glenn, Janet, Philip, Cok Raka, Karen Chwe and Sue Winski). High level statements have been completed, details are still being developed. More is to come from this important new committee who are working tirelessly to create documents and processes we can all use in the future that will help with our next audit.
Rtn. Allan presented on the Karangasem Gore Bay GG Water Project to provide water, some sanitary facilities and some economic development to 5 banjars, in one of the driest and poorest areas in Bali, These five banjars comprised over 3,000 people and the water would be used for hygiene, health, and even some agriculture. Currently the villiagers must walk great distance to obtain water and
the only crop they can grow is corn. The members present approved the project, hopefully the Board will approve next week and then the application can be sent to Rotary International.
Allan also discussed how the club decides on projects. He mentioned that time and energy needed to directed towards what focus areas to we will commit to, what geographical areas we should be operating in and then develop a five year plan and a ‘basket’ of projects.
Visiting Rotarian from Colorado, Barb talked about some great things that her club is going. One is a fabulous idea for e using the online ‘KickStarter’ system for raising money to fund projects. Here is what one Rotary club is doing on KickStarter: https://www. kickstarter.com/ projects/ 1689251865/blast-the-bench-take-back-tablerock.
The raffle prize of a RYLA T-shirt was won by Karen Lewis. Another one will raffled next week.
