ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
President Bruce opened the meeting by giving a Warm Welcome to our members and our special guest, the District Governor of Rotary, Nyoman Nilawati, and her assistant, Julian Rwai from RC Kuta. We also had several other guests this week including Rich Foss, Jeannine Hardy from Canada, Ianic Camlrand and her mon, Julia Rivai, Assistant Governor Patrick and David Kuper who started the original Rotary Club in Ubud.
As guests introduced themselves we learned that Rich Foss, RC Colorado Springs Interquest brought US$1,000 to help fund the water projects here in Bali. David Kuper mentioned two projects he is very proud of – a waste recycling project, which separate tons of waste every day, and the Bali blood bank, which he helped bring up to international standards. And Jeannine, who does projects with microfinance.
AG Partrick announced that RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is scheduled for the 3rd week of next April. Our club is trying to sponsor one of our own Rotaracts to attend this event which has helped so many.
Bruce brought us all up-to-date with our 3rd Annual Christmas Fundraising Buffet Dinner at the Maya Resort & Spa on 4 Sept. We have more raffle items including 2 night stays for 2 at
Maya Ubud and at Maya Sanur, and The Four Seasons with Dinner and Spa treatments for two. We have also decided that we would have one Silent Auction of The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah, Ubud – one voucher for a 2 nights stay in a Pool Villa for 2 guests, including all club benefits and two 90 minutes Balinese massages, valued at approx. 22,456,000rp.
Community Service Director Terri announced that the Helmet Project is moving along nicely and that helmets were given out to Peliatan Elementary school last week with follow up lessons to be organised for after Kuningan. It was also announced that our club and RC Seminyak will go in jointly to sponsor a John Fawcett Foundation visit to a local village. JFF does vision correct exams and surgeries that help so many people.
She told us all how the Rotary Polio project was close to eradicating Polis throughout the world and should be able to complete that by 2018! She also mentioned that this year’s Rotary Logo is “Serving Humanity”. She talked about how Rotary helps so many people in the world and that by doing local projects well, we can get the word out about Rotary.
The raffle was won by David Kuper.
