ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Pres. Allan is away to Australia so Proj. Chair Dora did a great job of running the meeting tonight. Introductions by guests, Mivho and Astrid, from Berlin who are Rotarians from two different rotary clubs Berlin. Their club and others received a Global Grant to help them concentrate on the European refugee crisis that has been a major concern in Europe.
The Rotary minute – RTN Irene Heaton:
“What is a global grant?” Renee gave a short synopsis of global grants, examples and the funding criteria. She also explained the qualification process, and monitoring and references. All of which is pretty complicated. For further information go HERE.
Treasurer report – Treasurer Brian noted income of 1,000,000rp from Renee for the sale of cookbooks to the rotary club of Darwin, while she was away! Currently the club has club funds of 140,000,000 IDR
Administration – IPP Bruce -Bruce noted that he was reading how another club went from 15 members to over 50 in one year. One of the things they did was make the meetings more
interesting and informative to guests. So we want to consider a new format at the Maya meetings. We want to conduct less business and include a short synopsis of the history of RCUS, plus highlight our previous and present projects. This would also give the speakers more time. Then at the Kakiang meetings we could cover more business related items. Budgets, etc. Secretary Sue suggested history of Rotary could be presented by different members on a rotation basis. All liked the idea and agreed this is to be discussed at the next board meeting
Bruce also reminded us of speaker bookings openings and the notification procedure. If you find someone who you think would be a good and interesting speaker for our Maya meetings, to 1) contact Allan and see if he agrees; then 2) contact Bruce to find open dates; then 3) contact the speaker with the open dates and try to nail down one. Finally contact Bruce so he can put it on out calendar.
Project Chair Dora – reported on Project Culik Library – need 50 to 200 books, she advises a purchasing date for those who wish to attend. (And a suggestion by Sue that the books and presentation could be combined with a Rumah Sehat healthy day, so all could only make one trip to Karagasam). John Fawcett Foundation– next village is Bangli, date still to be advised
Sue discussed Rotary BBQ Oct 1 at Kembali Beach resort Amed. This is like last year’s really fun event. Many Interacters from Australia came and worked hard with Rumah Sehat. Then Sue &
RTN Ray hosted a huge BBQ. Last year Bruce and about 6 of our Rotaracters attended. Let Sue or Dora know if you wish to attend this year so we can arrange transportation. For Rotarians the
fee is 100,000 for the BBQ, free for Rotaracters and Interacters. As many of us as possible should attend and support their efforts there.
Fundraising news – In the first week after Bruce send out emails to ask for raffle items for our Christmas Fundraiser we have already received almost 10M IDR worth. Locavore, Moziac, Indus, and a few others have already said YES. Last year we raised about 23M IDR and this year we are shooting for 50M from the fundraising dinner!
Proposed fund raising committee meeting 18 Sept 6pm at Kakiang. UNLESS the Board meeting after the 25 Sept meeting is cancelled, then we’ll have fundraising committee meeting after the 25 Sept meeting. We need to design the actual tickets and get them printed so we can give out to members to sell. Bruce will let the members know the schedule.
Social Media – Bruce reminded us all to watch our clubs Face Book page and then ‘SHARE’ posts on your own timelines. This will help the club receive recognition.
The Raffle prize was won by Astrid our guest from Berlin
Next meeting: Maya Resort & Spa 5:30 to 7p.m., 25 Sept. Guest speaker Bill Dalton author of Bali Travel books. Either Board meeting or Fundraising Committee meeting to follow at 7:30 at Maya.
