ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Visitors included: Brenda and Graham Bell from Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club, BC, Canada; and Neal, Andrew, Saemus and Agus – from Swimdo, Child Drowning Prevention Indonesia.
Welcome and Introduction: P. Allan took over this meeting as his first since being back from Australia. He welcomed all to the meeting and invited our guests to introduce themselves.
Graham Bell, Rotarian for 30 years; Brenda Rotarian 18 years. This is their 2nd trip to Bali and were very happy to be back and visiting our club. Brenda and Allan exchanged flags of respective clubs.
- Neil introduced his team from Swimdo– Child Drowning Prevention Indonesia. Neil , Saemus and Andrew are from America and spend part of their time in USA and part here in Bali. Indonesian Agus has a Bachelor of Law, and was the first instructor they trained. More information when they are our guest speakers’ at the end of March meeting at the Maya in Ubud (26 March)!
Allan told those present how we are the only club in the district to have increased their numbers in past 2 years. While 12% of the Rotary clubs in Bali closed down this last year. The district has put together a special team to address these and other Membership issues.
Current Projects: Since our Community Services Director, Dora is sick and missed the meeting, we talked about our current projects – John Fawcett Foundation ; Rumah Sehat; Water projects; School books; helmet project:
These are current, as more talks with Rotary Seminyak for another JFF day; Water projects 17 completed and 2 still current with a possible 2 more; no dates were given for Rumah Sehat Healthy day that we are sponsoring; more helmets will be distributed when schools are sourced for them, room not yet ready for library where books were donated in Celuk.
IPP Bruce mentioned our past project with Bali Children’s Project, where sponsorship is given to children to enable them to attend school. They are also now involved in distributing booklets to schools on HIV/Aids and awareness of physical abuse.
10 YEAR CELEBRATION – T. Brian is going to form a committee to organise this event, as yet no date, no venue. If you can assist please contact Brian.
We still need the following positions filled ASAP and possible nominees: Secretary Elect- possibility Dora; Treasurer Elect- no nominee, we need someone to volunteer for this important position – RTN Abe? Projects Person – Bruce agreed to continue his present functions but is asking for much more help than he received last year for our 5th Annual Christmas Fundraising Buffet Dinner. Even someone else could take over with Bruce helping them. It is a very fun project.

- Youth Committee- no update as Abe not present.
- Projects Committee – no update as Dora not present
- Treasurer’s Report – approximately 135 million in account; 5 million for library book project; 5.5 million for Mt. Agung disaster fund; 14.5- 15 million for helmet projects.
OTHER BUSINESS– GMS (Grant Management Seminar) on 7th April in Sanur. Rtn Tika has volunteered to attend. This is about networking and the general organisation of clubs. We must send a representative to be eligible for District grant. Thank you Tika.
VP Rich will take over coordinating numbers attending meetings after 12th March, as RTN Renee will be in Australia. Thank you Rich.
Guest Graham, asked how our club generates funds; informed of our fund raising events, sale of cookery books, grants, donations from clubs overseas and private donations. Graham drew the raffle and won it! He re-donated it and then his wife Brenda won it!
She did not open it; raffle donated by Sue.

Guest speaker, Debby Lukito Goeyardi of Komunitas Kanaditya (Volunterering with Love) a children’s and teenage book author who has published several books. One of his children’s books is titled “Time to Flap” won the Samsung KidsTime Author Award in Singapore in 2016 and exhibited at Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2017. Also co-founder Dewa Gede Agung Dharmayasa, will accompany. – The power of combining Literacy and Social works.
