ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
IPP Bruce, standing in for Pres. Allan, welcomed everyone and had the guests introduce themselves.
Sec. Sue gave a brief outline on the water project proposal that we have submitted for a District Grant this year, for Rumah Sehat Seloni, the costs of the water bore and the need for the community in Amed. Currently at the medical clinic the water is cut off at 10AM and this really affects how well the clinic can help the local people. This well will solve that problem and help improve the health of local Balinese..
Bruce then reviewed the current status and news of our 4th Annual Christmas Fundraising Dinner at the Maya on 10 Dec. Currently we have
been told that Maya has sold tickets for 20 people and the club has commitments for 33 people all together. Plus he reminded our members that 1) the major marketing in the Bali Advertiser will be out in the issue of 20 Nov and we expect sales from that, and 2) people usually don’t purchase tickets like this early and even last year, most ticket sales happened within the 2 weeks prior to the event. All posters have been put up around Ubud and even Sanur.
Sue also reported on the Silent Auction sales that she has received. We have received bids for each of the 7 items so far.
Bruce then reviewed the assignments for the fundraising event:
Raffles Ray will give out the free ticket for each adult when people enter and registered with Maya, plus he will sell additional tickets to those who want additional ones during the event.
- PE Brian will call the raffle prizes during the dinner
- At the end of the meal Bruce will collect the Silent Auction sheets and announce the winners
- Tika will be handing out the actual vouchers to each of the raffle and silent auction winners
- Tika’s husband will take photos during the evening
- Sue distribute to each seat before the dinner, club pamphlets, silent auction description sheets and raffle item description sheets
Bruce will send an email to Tika of the address for pickup of David Metcalfe’s photograph
Renee told us her experience with working with Bali’s snake expert, Ron Lilly and his prompt attention after she discovered a snake in her kitchen. He was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Bruce – gave us a recap of the District Governors visit which has been delayed from last October. Looks like it will be sometime in the New Year.
Bruce also announced that the Rotary’s district conference will be 11-12 May 2018, in Java and anyone may attend and are encouraged. Allan commented on how it is a great way to network with other members and clubs.
Tungga Dewi from Kopernik
She did a great job giving us a history of Kopernik, founded in 2010 by Ewa Wojkowska and Toshi Nakamura to find smarter and effective solutions to address poverty in the Last Mile. Which means the furthest from government and NGO help, villages in the most remote areas without electricity, phones, and water. This is done by their Technology & Distribution section.
- Last mile Consulting
- Experimentation, and
- are also working on Mt Agung disaster response .
Their major funding comes through crowd funding
Bruce mentioned his experience with the water filters that Kopernik sells. He said his had paid for itself within only 3 months. He even did a blind taste test with his wife and she could not tell the water from Aqua bottles and the filtered water. He recommends that everyone purchase their filters.
