ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Our President Bruce opened our meeting promptly at 6PM, after a wonderful and animated social time and after a delicious meal thanks to the Maya chefs. It was positively delightful – a full meal with deserts! Maya’s food is so well done!
Bruce then asked members and our eight guests to introduce themselves and say a little about where they were from what they do.
Bruce talked about our 3rd Annual Christmas Fundraising Buffet Dinner next Sunday at the Maya, starting at 6PM. He also discussed a few of our current projects including our Helmets Project, which has already given out 200 helmets in the Ubud area; our support for the John Fawcett
Foundation to help with vision; and the Bali Children’s Foundation, which gives scholarships to Balinese students who couldn’t go to school without it.
Allan also mentioned that with additional contributions we were now able to support 2 people to attend the RYLA event in Java early next year.
David Metcalf, a Bali resident and photographer who has spent the past five years involved in various projects on the island of Borneo raising awareness and supporting the indigenous Dayak cultures and precious environment of the world’s third largest Island was our speaker tonight. He told about what he does and how his projects help locals. He explained his photo-tours, Village Plate – dinners with locals, and his work with Taksu Photography on Monkey Forest. Folks can book these and other
things he does at the website: www.davidmetcalfphotography.com . His friend Aini Abdul spoke on her work with Ramsel Buku. Which means ‘give a child a chance’. She helps with ‘floating libraries’ in her native Borneo.
Raffle was won by Ben Fijal. The prize was a jar of peppers from Locavore-to-go..
Next meeting: Kakiang – 19 December Board Meeting– 5:30 for 6:00PM start. We will discuss the results of our 3rd Annual Fundraising Christmas Buffet Dinner at the Maya Resort & Spa on 4 Dec. Plus some new project proposals and make plans for 2017
