ANNOUNCEMENTS, CORRESPONDENCE, REPORTS
Judith presented a minute on the process of nomination and selection of the RI President, something we rarely hear about. It’s always good to know more about the “big picture” of Rotary, and how our leaders are chosen every year.
Janet reported on the Kopernik/AusAid Indonesian Social Innovator Awards – all four finalists had terrific and worthy programs, so not easy to choose a winner. One that really touched her was the story of a doctor in Flores who has set up a system for villagers to pay for their health insurance at the local clinic with the only thing they have, that is, rubbish recyclable. They are also looking to introduce some motorbikes for nursing services, Honda company has offered these for only Rp 2.0 million ($220). This may be a good project for Sunset.
Allan provided us with an update from the Bali Rotary President and Secretary meeting in Sanur
News Flash: The DG’s planned Bali visit has been postponed until November. Why? Due to security requirements for the APEC conference being held here, and world leaders flying into Bali, the airport will be closed for several days, and many flights (including our DG’s) have been cancelled.
Change of Meeting Date and Venue for Oct. 28 meeting. Pres. Sue announced our meeting of October 28th will be cancelled and replaced by a fellowship meeting with RC Seminyak at the Pelangi Restaurant on Jalan Dewi Sri in Kuta.
Save the date – October 20 Janet is hosting a joint birthday/housewarming fest for RCBUS members and families. She’s recently scaled down, now that she’s become an “empty nester” and moved into her new gorgeous, smaller, Javanese joglo house.
Project Committee update – Marilyn is preparing a powerpoint of the Temukus projects to present when the DG visits, as it shows a variety of projects in one community and also how our club works together with Rotoract.
The Bentuyung elementary school computer room project is done and awaiting the ceremony so kids can start using it.
Charismatic Suzana Chandra from RC Denpasar joined us tonight as guest speaker.
Suzana is currently a District Trainer, and also provides support for all of Zone 7 training. She has been a Rotarian for 5 years holding the position of Secretary for 2 years before becoming President.
She told us of her path to becoming a Rotarian, how her sister-in-law invited her to several meetings and let her see for herself the great opportunities for service which of course culminated in her joining the club.
Susanna shared her thoughts on club Membership and some insights from her own club’s revival in the last 3-4 years.
