10 August Update from Neil Woodgate on little Ketut: Ketut was in hospital for longer than expected after his first chemo treatment, but is now doing well and appears much more cheerful than pre op. Such a great sight to see him smiling again.

25 July, Betel Nut in Ubud: Rotary Club Bali Ubud Sunset continued their tradition of FUNraisers, teaming with Betel Nut to present The Hogan Brothers, a wildly talented jazz fusion trio to benefit 8-year-old Ketut Evan Aiikrisna. The proceeds from the Rp 100,000 admission fee went towards his medical costs.

Friday, 25 July at Betel Nut in Ubud was a rare opportunity to hear some great music to benefit 8-year-old Ketut Evan Aiikrisna. The proceeds from the Rp 100,000 admission fee went towards his medical costs.

Ketut has recently had a successful operation for a Wilms tumor (kidney, with high recovery rate) and is now getting chemotherapy. His parents are economically disadvantaged and RCBUS is working to help raise funds to cover his medical bills, which are estimated to run over Rp 100,000,000. Please help Ketut’s recovery by showing your support.

Based in Oakland, California, the three Hogan Brothers are rooted in the American styles of Jazz, Funk, R&B and Pop, and are further influenced by such international styles as Timba, Tango, Gamelan, Highlife, Soukous, Afro-pop, North Indian Classical music and more. Have a look at these Youtube videos:

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, the brothers were fortunate to take advantage of its excellent music programs (Berkeley High Jazz, Young Musicians Program, Cal State East Bay Music, UC Berkeley Ethnomusicology), and also had the opportunity to study internationally with master musicians in countries like Indonesia, Cuba, Ghana and Brazil.

They have performed with many great artists/projects such as: James Moody, Hugh Masekela, Peter Erskine, Tommy Igoe, Larry Graham, Bob Brookmeyer, Roy Ayers, Josh Jones, Goapele, Maria Schneider, Bobby Brown, Evan Rachel Wood, Keith Terry, Victor Wooten, Latoya London, Dave Chappelle, Crosspulse, Dynamic, Adam Theis, Jazz Mafia and O-maya.

This was a rare treat to hear such amazing talent – and for such a good cause!
