Zoom from Bali to Batman on the magical music of the ancient gamelan
Using a Zoom platform, you can join an interactive discussion of the influence of gamelan music on other musical genres throughout history while you listen to the music the gamelan has influenced.
You will hear the music of French composers as Claude Debussy, who discovered gamelan music at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. From Paris, you will continue your auditory journey in time to the 1960’s and the musical minimalism movement in the United States. Included will be examples of how Hollywood incorporated such music into its productions.
Your musical journey will be conducted by Ruediger Tiedemann from Rotary E-Club Koeln who has lead over 30 such musical journeys. Ruediger is a hobby musician who plays viola in classical amateur orchestras with concerts in the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Philharmonie Koeln. He also cofounded the Rotary Jazz Bigband based in Mannheim, Germany and participated in their last concert in Duesseldorf, see www.rotaryjazz.com
